This is important information from James about next week's Canberra trip away.
Next Sunday will be the first ride of our Canberra cycling trip and we are fortunate that we will still have the benefit of daylight savings. Canberra was built for cycling. Staying close to the centre of Canberra means we will be able to cover more new routes each day around Canberra’s extensive cycle network. We will go past many of the city’s icon sites with good photo opportunities. The ride managers for the rides are Carol, Chris, James, Ric and Warwick. There are some taking their MTB who will do in addition to the daily ride some of Canberra’s gravel/MTB tracks including the Centennial trail that circles Canberra. Canberra has a lot on so it would be a good idea to look if there is anything you want to see in the afternoons after the ride.
Key ride information:
  • Rides start and finish at the Alivio Tourist Park at O’Connor.
  • Starting point opposite the Veranda
  • Start time is 9:00 am. Riders need to be at the start point by 8:45 am to sign on and hear the ride briefing.
  • We have no formal rest day as participants can choose their rest day if they want one.
  • All rides are club rides, so participants need to sign onto the new ride sheet once and initial the days that they are riding.
  • For any rides outside the formal program such as dirt track rides, the sign on sheet we use for home rides will be used.
The happy hour get together will be held at 5pm at the recreation area behind the reception office. For those who have not been on past trips away and unfamiliar with what happens just bring something to sit on, a drink and some nibbles to share. This is where details of the next days ride will be given.
The Thursday night dinner out together will be held at a location to be finalised, either the Veranda Restaurant at the Alivio Tourist Park, or the Duxton Hotel in O’Connor.
If you have not booked it is still not too late to decide to come for all or some of the week. At the Alivio Tourist Park there is cabin availability, but caravan sites are more limited and available mid-week but not for the whole week. If you prefer to stay elsewhere that is fine but may not be as convenient.
